the Carpenter's Shop

The Carpenter's Shop, (TCS), provides day care and rehabilitation for adults who are homeless and destitute. TCS provides a caring ministry both physically and spiritually in the following:

• Daily occupation and skills training in carpentry, panel-beating, spray-painting and handcrafts.
• Social-worker assessments and support aimed at rehabilitating and reintegrating clients into society
• Facilitating the process of reconnecting clients with families.
• Physical needs of food, toiletries and clothing provided, as well as health care.

How our programme works

• A 6-month rehabilitation programme is designed for each client. An agreement to participate is signed and the process is monitored by our supervisor and social worker to ensure the clients progress in developing existing skills and acquiring new skills. Through this approach we strive to assist the trainees to reintegrate into society and reunite with family where possible. Services rendered to these people include the following: - assistance with proper curriculum vitae, job hunting, disability grant applications, instilling office etiquette as well as the importance of hygiene.
• Ablution and laundry facilities for many "drop-in clients" not in our programme. (between 8am & 10am)
• Temporary accommodation for 40 single people in modern, comfortable flatlets.
• We have a 3-week training course in basic carpentry, held each month. This is open to all unemployed people on application as well as selected day-care clients, on recommendation.

Specialised services in our carpentry and automotive department are being offered to the general public. You can help us help the most marginalised members of our society who live in poverty and despair by using our services:

• The Carpenter's Shop carpentry department makes and repairs furniture and other woodwork items.
• Our panel-beating and spray-painting department is renowned for its quality work. If you don't have insurance call us, our quotes will make you jump with joy!
• View and purchase our handcrafted glassware made from recycled glass. Our customised glasses, vases and other functional or decorative goods are ideal as personal or promotional items. You may order glassware electronically on this site from the "Glassware" page.
• Our hair salon for ladies and gents, run by a fully qualified, experienced hairdresser, is fast becoming renowned for the excellent service at really low prices, with special discounts for pensioners.
